Long Story Short, I got into an accident and the insurance company paid for the repairs, the body shop completed them. To get the car back I had to pay the towing bill and deductible. When I finally worked out a way to pay it, they suddenly said they needed all the money in one shot. I had worked it so I would pay the tow bill in full, then the insurance company would reimburse the full tow bill ($500) and that is how much the deductible was.
My Lender (Wachovia) knew this and knew I wouldn't be paying this months payment because I had to pay this off to get the car back. I let them know (the bank) that they had reneged on the payment plan. I was informed I had two options -
1) Pay The Full Amount To The Body Shop
2) They Pay The Full Amount, Pick It Up and Then I Would Have To Pay Them Back
I had decided I would trade-in the car instead and tried to setup something with the dealership sales dept. I was informed today (Oct 29) that my car had been picked up by Wachovia. I guess the Body Shop (had been waiting for payment since Sept 22nd) was tired of waiting and was going to put the car up for lien sale. Of course the Bank wanted none of this and pick it up.
I don't know what all the charges are, but I was told if they picked up the car, I have 15-17 days or something to pay back the fees + this months payment.
Like I said I tried to trade it in as its unlikely for me to get a loan with the amount I need to pay all the fees and I would actually like to get from under Wachovia (Now Wells Fargo) pay it off and pay another lender.
My question is this -
I haven't seen this asked, but I wanted to know could I likely get a car dealer to pay off my car in a trade for a new one? Of course they would have to agree to the trade value sight unseen (unlikely?) and to the exact payoff amount.
I'm going to talk to a couple of dealers tomorrow (talked to few today without laying it all out as I have here)
Do I have any chance of succeeding?
Other Stats -
16 Payments Left of 60 (Owe Less Than Wholesale Value)
1 Late Pay (Created By Wachovia)
Credit Score At This Moment In Time - 625

Dear Sirs/Madam,
I recently cancelled the above account with you due to the fact that after the 12 month warranty on my SKY plus box run out I then started receiving on screen messages stating that no signal was being received. As I have been a customer of Sky since analogue TV through various addresses I knew to disconnect system from mains supply etc etc.
As there are a number of sites on the internet that discuss this problem and show that this is a well known problem to Sky, I was confident that Sky could repair this situation free of charge as the problem obviously lies with the equipment that Sky provide. I could not possibly comment, as some people have, that this is a ploy by Sky to increase their revenue.
After contacting Sky (which is not a straight forward operation and causes massive frustration with your customers) the telephone operator would only offer this repair for half price after a long discussion. On hearing that this was the only concession that Sky was prepared to make, I cancelled my account. Sky no longer would receive A?35 approx. per month for an unlimited time. This in itself did not go as smoothly as planned as I had to contact Sky to inform them that on the 8th August 2009, one day after my subscription finished, I was still receiving Sky pictures. This was repaired within 4 hours, again another long drawn out affair on the telephone.
I have since received a letter stating that my account is in credit and that Sky wish to repay this to me. On contacting Sky and giving details to the automated telephone answering system I was asked for these details again by one of your operatives, and when questioning him regarding this I was cut off. On re-contacting Sky I was informed that I would be paid by cheque. I questioned this as it states on Sky letter that the re-payment can be paid as I wish (a?To help us do this, we need you to give us a quick call so we can confirm how you wish to have this repaida?). Your operative stated that I would have to set up a direct debit with my bank to allow this payment to be made by any other means!!! WRONG.
Although the first 12 months of my contract went very well, after this period the experience with Sky has been very fraught, difficult to understand operatives or make them understand due in most cases to be communicating with operatives from abroad, a telephone answering system that frustrates customers. It appears that Sky is very happy to take customers hard earned cash but is very inefficient at dealing with customeras problems or complaints. I know I am only one customer but I am not the only one experiencing these problems with Sky plus boxes, a problem that Sky will not acknowledge and hope customers upgrade to Sky HD.
I look forward to receiving your comments to the above points
A major expenditure made to equipment that extends its useful life beyond the original estimated useful life would be recorded by
a. debiting repair expense and crediting cash.
b. debiting depreciation expense and crediting cash.
c. debiting equipment and crediting cash.
d. debiting cash and crediting accumulated depreciation.
Letter sent to Sky Complaints - Has any one had similar treatment??

WASHINGTON a An early progress report on President Barack Obama's economic recovery plan overstates by thousands the number of jobs created or saved through the stimulus program, a mistake that White House officials promise will be corrected in future reports.
The government's first accounting of jobs tied to the $787 billion stimulus program claimed more than 30,000 positions paid for with recovery money. But that figure is overstated by least 5,000 jobs, or one in six, according to an Associated Press review of a sample of stimulus contracts.
The AP review found some counts were more than 10 times as high as the actual number of jobs; some jobs credited to the stimulus program were counted two and sometimes more than four times; and other jobs were credited to stimulus spending when none was produced.
For example:
_ A company working with the Federal Communications Commission reported that stimulus money paid for 4,231 jobs, when about 1,000 were produced.
_ A Georgia community college reported creating 280 jobs with recovery money, but none was created from stimulus spending.
_ A Florida child care center said its stimulus money saved 129 jobs but used the money on raises for existing employees.
There's no evidence the White House sought to inflate job numbers in the report. But administration officials seized on the 30,000 figure as evidence that the stimulus program was on its way toward fulfilling the president's promise of creating or saving 3.5 million jobs by the end of next year.
The reporting problem could be magnified Friday when a much larger round of reports is expected to show hundreds of thousands of jobs repairing public housing, building schools, repaving highways and keeping teachers on local payrolls.
But the White House promises many problems will be corrected in Friday's report.
"I think you'll see a pretty good degree of accuracy," said Ed DeSeve, an Obama adviser helping to oversee the stimulus program.
DeSeve said the administration is aware of problems with the early data. Agencies have been working with businesses that received the money to correct mistakes. Other errors discovered by the public also will be corrected, he said.
"If there's an error that was made, let's get it fixed," DeSeve said.
The White House released a statement early Thursday responding to the AP review, arguing what the administration said are the "real facts" about how jobs were counted in the stimulus data distributed two weeks ago. It said for the first time Thursday that release had been a test run of a small subset of data that had been subjected only to three days of reviews, that it had already corrected "virtually all" the mistakes identified by the AP and that the discovery of mistakes "does not provide a statistically significant indication of the quality of the full reporting that will come on Friday."
The data partially reviewed by the AP for errors included all the data presently available, representing all known federal contracts awarded to businesses under the stimulus program. The figures being released Friday include different categories of stimulus spending by state governments, housing authorities, nonprofit groups and other organizations.
As of early Thursday, on its recovery.org Web site, the government was still citing 30,383 as the actual number of jobs linked so far to stimulus spending, despite the mistakes the White House has now acknowledged and said were being corrected.
It's not clear just how far off the 30,000 claim was. The AP's review was not an exhaustive accounting of all 9,000 contracts, but homed in on the most obvious cases where there were indications of duplications or misinterpretations.
While the thousands of overstated jobs represent a tiny sliver of the overall economy, they represent a significant percentage of the initial employment count credited to the stimulus program.
Tom Gavin, a spokesman for the White House budget office, attributed the errors to officials as well as recipients having to conduct such reporting for the first time.
In fact, the AP review shows some businesses undercounted the number of jobs funded under the stimulus program by not reporting jobs saved.
Here are some of the findings:
_ Colorado-based Teletech Government Solutions on a $28.3 million contract with the Federal Communications Commission for creation of a call center, reported creating 4,231 jobs, although 3,000 of those workers were paid for five weeks or less.
"We all felt it was an appropriate way to represent the data at the time" and the reporting error has been corrected, said company president Mariano Tan.
_ The Toledo, Ohio-based Koring Group received two FCC contracts, again for call centers. It reported hiring 26 people for each contract, or a total of 52 jobs, but cited the same workers for both contracts. The jobs only lasted about two months.
I have been buying a home on rent to own and would like to borrow the money to repair the home pay it off does any one have any advice
We found a home that we like asking price 186,900, and there already were other bids so we placed a bid of 192,500 figuring this was the last weekend to qualify and close to get the first time home buyers credit and our agent felt it is worth more. We have a home inspection and the roof only has a couple of years, and downstairs plumbing is hooked up to septic. The city code does not allow use of a septics when sewer is available. The price of removing the septic tank, an up flush toilet and re-plumbing to the sewer line is around 4,000, to replace the roof around 4500. My agent claims that the seller will cancel the contract if we ask for concessions, and now the appraisal comes in at 185,000 without mentioning the inspection problems. I feel I should still ask for a price concession of at least down to 185,000 should I also ask for repairs?
Thanks for all the fast answers. Additional details market very strong in this area for houses under 250,000. This house was only on te market for 7 days and 4 bids. If we agree to concessions and title comes up clean no problem closing by Nov 20.
I am in dire need to repair my credit rating and was wondering if anyone had any advice on how I could go about doing that?

WASHINGTON a A Colorado company said it created 4,231 jobs with the help of President Barack Obama's economic recovery plan. The real number: fewer than 1,000.
A child care center in Florida said it saved 129 jobs with the help of stimulus money. Instead, it gave pay raises to its existing employees.
Elsewhere in the U.S., some jobs credited to the stimulus program were counted two, three, four or even more times.
The government has overstated by thousands the number of jobs it has created or saved with federal contracts under the president's $787 billion recovery program, according to an Associated Press review of data released in the program's first progress report.
The discrepancy raises questions about the reliability of a key benchmark the administration uses to gauge the success of the stimulus. The errors could be magnified Friday when a much larger round of reports is released. It is expected to show hundreds of thousands of jobs repairing public housing, building schools, repaving highways and keeping teachers on local payrolls.
The White House seized on an initial report from a government oversight board weeks ago that claimed federal contracts awarded to businesses under the recovery plan already had helped pay for more than 30,000 jobs. The administration said the number was evidence that the stimulus program had exceeded early expectations toward reaching the president's promise of creating or saving 3.5 million jobs by the end of next year.
But the 30,000 figure is overstated by thousands a at the very least by nearly 5,000, or one in six, based on AP's limited review of some of the contracts a because some federal agencies and recipients of the money provided incorrect job counts. The review found some counts were more than 10 times as high as the actual number of jobs; some jobs were credited to stimulus spending when, in fact, none were produced.
My boyfriends wrote this for me....
My boyfriend works in a privately owned coffee shop in town where we live. Today, just seemed to be his lucky day. He works in the kitchen and is a barista there as well. He was cutting hummus in a broken, decrepit food processor that wasn't thrown out or replaced and is owned by the owner of the store. Well let's just say that this processor is WAY beyond repair, you have to use a pencil to turn it on and off. I mean come on. <(As a side note, food processors have a built in safety mechanism that keeps them from operating when the top is off.) Anyway, he chopped the hummus and after making sure it was off, like any capable human being would, he reached inside to take the blades out to refill and continue doing his job, when it shorted out and turned on while his hand was still inside. Needless to say, it was pretty bad. So after getting to the hospital, checking in, being seen by the doctor and leaving, he comes to find that the owner has been making his other fellow employees sign a form that stated he put his hand in it while it was still on and the top was off, when in fact there was was about four other people in the kitchen when this occurred, but no one saw it happen or mentioned the fact that it was still on. Okay, a couple things I should fill you in on before we continue. One - the owner of this restaurant is a ex-serviceman and accountant. Two - half of her "employees" are actually volunteers working for food credit, Three - It is NOT a known fact if she has actual business insurance or not, Four - She's fighting Worker's Compensation about this incident. Five - She actually stated to other employees that if he has outside insurance, there would be no need to claim through workers compensation. If you where in this situation and dedicated your life to help run another "good natured" person's business, a STRUGGLING business at that, to keep it open, what action would you take? If you are like me, I told him to sue her ass.

So I have printed out my credit report and intend improving my credit. After I pay for my negatives will they disappear immediately?
So once I pay something will anything improve?
I am a part owner of an inherited home. There is no mortgage. 4 out of the 5 owners put in an established amount of money each month to cover expenses. It is a summer home. However one of the five never pays their share. Further this person is in arears in personal finances as well. this person is at risk of defaulting on several loans/credit lines in the very near future. I fear that this will result in a lien being put on the shared property as this person owns nothing else. Will this lien effect the 4 other individauls' credit scores? If we 4 (non-delinquent) owners need to take out a home equity loan for roof repairs on the shared home will this person's delinquent credit effect that?
How do you pay for your auto ? Do you just take it out of your checking or savings or do you use your credit card? Or do you have money set a side? What is the best way to pay for your auto repair bill ?
I had an accident with a rental car about 3 monts ago. I bent the car back door and back part of the car hitting a concrtete post trying to avoid upcomming car in a parking garage. The rental car calim is for $2100. My deductible is 500 and direct repair cost is about 1600. I did not notify my insurance back then because I thought the rental company would do that (I haven't been in that situation before and I did not know they don't notify insurances, even though I gave them insurance information) My credit card will probably pay up to 800. Should I call the insurnce for the remaining 1300, since I think they will probably increase my premium, no matter that I actually tried to avoid an accident with a car?
Please note that we do not give refunds on any item unless it is faulty or damaged and a receipt has been produced. We will first attempt to get the item repaired by the manufacturer if you so wish. We will only give a refund on faulty or damaged items that are returned within a reasonable period from the date on the receipt. It is the discretion of who serves you as to whether you are within a reasonable time frame. If an extra delivery cost has been incurred for the item purchased, the amount refunded, will not include the cost of postage. If you return an item because you no longer want it or because it was not what you were looking for/not the right item, you are not entitled to a refund and it is discretion of the member of staff who serves you, if they wish to give you a credit note, they are not obliged to do so. If you are aware of a fault before purchase and still carry out the purchase, you cannot receive a refund or credit note if you return the item because of that particular fault. Items that are returned because a fault has arisen due to neglect or mistreatment, you are not entitled to a refund or credit note.
So, is it up to us how long people have to return an item, to make the reasonable time frame. As there are not many staff, as long as we all know what is an acceptable return, then i suppose leaving so much up to the staff at the time is ok? I'm just worried what i have there doesn't confirm to the seemingly strict law on refunds! We did use to say no refunds (only if it was something that the customer bought and was wrong, for example, a lady bought a screwdriver set but because the handle was too smll she brought it back, we gave a credit note, is this acceptable? By rights we did not have to give a refund or credit note as it was just something she no longer wanted? Thanks for help so far
It is for my dads shop. He has asked me to make a returns policy. I was going to set a two week period, is this good enough? What could i do about making the staff less dependant? I have read that it depends on the circumstances at the time, therefore i feel the staff could make the decision depending on the situation? Somebody came at the weekend and said "im moving out of the area and have this credit note for some batteries that i bought that were not the right ones, so can i have a refund as i will not be using it" so i just gave him the refund.

I have collection ($3000 rent 2004) and late payments on my file.
Iv'e heard they send letters but how can I learn aboutit to do this for myself and my friends and family?
So I'm in a terrible situation right now. I deliver pizza's. It's a good job and I get overtime every week. I'm not trying to lose the 1500 a month because of car problems. I just spent 250 to get the brakes redone just to find out that there's something wrong with the motor when the truck dies as soon as i get home from the repair shop. Won't start anymore.
I just got approved for a $600 max credit card and it's in the mail right now but it's only the second business day from the 7 to 10 they say it should be there in. That's too long since i have to work on Wednesday. I was thinking. Maybe I can call my bank or credit company and get my card number and expiration. Or maybe go into the bank to get it. So i could just give the tow service and auto repair shops my number to pay.
Will the tow service not tow if they can't swipe the card? Will the repair shop repair with just the number without the card? Will the bank or credit agencies even give me my info over the phone or in person? Any other ideas of solving this situation?
Ok..here's the deal..I jacked my credit when I became 18...now 24 suffering from my bad choices. I am now attempting to repair my bad credits/debts on my credit report.
{{{How does the 7 year drop off rule work?}}}
I ask that because some are CLOSE to being on there for 7 years...AND while I am paying them off 1 by 1...I can't take care of them all in time, etc.
((I still plan on paying off every single one of them off, but if they drop off my credit report in the meantime, I won't complain of course))
{{{Will calling them all and setting up payment arrangements and paying as agreed restart the 7 years?}}}
And i've recently noticed that one has been given to yet another collection company
{{{Does that start the 7 years over also?}}}
I need to put my car in the shop for repairs today but can't seem to find any legit places to get a personal loan with a bad credit history. The previous entries from others containing similar questions all have bad links from suggested websites.
Also, I'm sick of these payday advance websites. Although I have used them before, the last time I applied for one, it was a scam. It seems like every site I search and come across now is for a payday advance.
I just need to get emergency cash and rebuild my credit at the same time. I have no family or friends that are able to help. Does anyone have any ideas for obtaining emergency cash with a quick turn-around of funds?
I have a house in san antonio texas that i would like to rent it out, i have done all the repair and the house is in ready conditions. i am not sure how do i go about getting all the paperwork once i find a tennant. stuff like background check, credit check and agreements. where do i get the forms, where do i do all these checks? are there trusted online services that do all that? Any info will be helpful.
My husband died early this year. He had, so he said, and insurance policy for $88,000.00. He got papers every year from Prudential which he opened and put away. When he died, however, and I called the company, I found out that he had lied, (not the first time), and the only insurance he left was a 2000.00 policy in his parentas name, he had let the other policy lapse last year.
The house I am living in now was in foreclosure...my late mother in law bought the house back in 1996 and we paid her rent money every month towards the mortgage payments. After she died, my husband took the advice of a friend of his at work who told him, "You don't have to make any house payments until the probate is settled", which of course was not true. So my husband, while assuring me he was making the house payments from a checking account he had in his own name was in fact not making them, and lying to me about it. (YES, I KNOW he was an idiot, but it gets worse.)
Without telling me a word about it, he allowed the house to go into foreclosure, it was a default case, and he didn't even OPEN any of the papers he got from the court. The papers all went down to his late mother's house, since the loan was in her name, and I didn't see them, or I would have taken steps to stop it. (He also let her house go into foreclosure and lost it at auction last year. Yes, an idiot.)
The first I heard of it was when he told me that the house was due to be sold at sheriff's auction. Frantically, I looked on line and he declared emergency bankruptcy with less than 24 hours to go before the sale. He then went through Loss and Mitigation. Right now, they want to refinance the loan but the loan is STILL in my late mother in laws name, even though I have sent them 4 copies of her death certificate, and called them 7 times to explain the situation.
I don't even WANT this house any more because I canat stand it, it needs major repairs, and our next door neighbor is crazy and keeps gossiping about us all over town and is showing an unnatural interest in my pretty 19 year old daughter.
We saw a house in town that we love and can get for $65,000.00. Unfortunately, I don't have much money at all, since I had to pay off a few creditors after my husband died unexpectedly in February.
Right now I am not working; I lost my job early in 2008 after the company I worked for went out of business. I have been applying for jobs ever since without success, and believe me I'm not picky. I don't have a very good credit history right now, since my late husband and mother in law took out credit cards in my name after we moved and the applications came to my mother in laws house (where we had lived) and they filed them out, maxed them out, and never paid on them. (My husband told me at first it was my mother in law who took them out herself, telling me this after she died, then late in January he confessed that he had taken them out with her too, (Believe me when I say if there hadn't been a death there would have been a divorce)). So I don't know if that's why I can't get a job or if it's my age. (I'm in my mid 50's and a lot of companies are hiring younger people now.)
My 22 year old son, who is out of school and working, and my 19 year old daughter who goes to school and works part time live with me, and I get a Social Security check for me and my 12 year old daughter every month. We want this house very badly, I can't sell mine right now because it needs too many repair jobs, which my husband never did, and I don't have the money to have them done.
We really want the other house. Is there anyplace we can get a loan in our situation? Anyone who can give me some good advice, (and not smart mouth me about my situation, or my horrid late husband and his equally horrid mother), I would so appreciate it. This house is driving me to despair and I so want to start out in a new place, fresh away from any reminders of my late husband and away from the hideous neighbor. (This reads like a bad movie, I know, but itas all true.) Thank you!
I AN RENTING A RENT TO OWN HOUSE NOW THAT IS SELLING FOR $185,000. THE OWNER IS WILLING TO GIVE ME MY FIRST YEARS RENT BACK AS A DOWN PAYMENT($14,100) I CAN COME UP WITH $6000. MY CREDIT IS AS BAD AS BAD CAN BE. WHO CAN I CALL THAT CAN TELL ME WHAT I NEED TO DO IN THIS NEXT YEAR AND A HALF TO REPAIR MY CREDIT ENOUGH TO BUY MY HOUSE?I ONLY HAVE UNTIL APRIL 2009 OR THE $14,100 DEAL GOES AWAY.I HAVE TO DO THIS IN THAT TIME FRAME BECAUSE THERE IS NO WAY THAT I AM MOVEING AGAIN AND I'll NEVER BE ABLE TO SAVE $20,100 AGAIN. THIS IS AN OPPERTUNITY I HAVE TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF AND CANT PASS UP. PLEASE HELP ME...
I get a lot of emails from Lexington Law Firm and a few other companies to repair my credit but I don't wanna be scammed.
I'm having a bad week. I totaled my regular car and have a rental car while it is in the shop being repaired. I declined the LDW from the rental company because my credit card said they had it covered. Then, today, I think I rubbed up against a curb and there is a scratch on one of the rims. Pretty big.
Can I get the rims repaired or replaced on my own? I'm pretty sure it will be cheaper to do that than to pay any ridiculous amount that the car rental place will charge once/if they see the damage.
Are auto shops allowed to do work on rented cars?
ok..so these are the first entries BEFORE adjustments but i dunno the correct sequence;;;
Cash
Shop Supplies
Equipment
Furniture
Accounts Payable
Notes payable
Estrada Capital
Estrada Drawing
Repair Income
Utilities Expense
Salaries Expense
Advertising Expense
Rent Expense
TOTAL
....
And these were the adjusting entries:
Bad Debts Expense
Allowance for Bad Debts
Depreciation Expense
Accumulated Dep'n - furniture
Accumulated Dep'n - equipment
Accrued salaries
Shop Supplies unused
Accrued Repair Income
----
Please correct the sequence of ADJUSTED ENTRIES. Should the credited entry be immediately right after its debited entry?
Thanks!
How do you start to repair credit when you're still in debt?? I have stopped using credit cards or taking loans. I have outstanding debt (around $10,000, $3000 credit card and the rest personal loan from a bank). My credit is bad because I lost my job and couldn't keep up with payments. How can I begin to fix this? Is this considered massive debt, will it screw my chances of having a "normal" life?
Some of these accounts are already in collections
I am a member of lexington law and they claim that they can repair your credit by have things removed. Is this so? Is paying $30.00 a month worth it?
I used to have 2 credit cards from Citibank (in the Philippines) -- Visa and MasterCard. Unfortunately, I was not able to pay these cards on time so I decided to cancel them while paying for the remaining balance. However, I was only able to pay off completely one credit card. Now that I'm more financially stable, I decided to apply for a new credit card. Unfortunately I was declined probably because of my bad credit record. Now, I'm looking for a reputable company (in the Philippines) that can help me repair my credit record .
or should I go to reular counselors?
Alright so up until like 3 months ago I was able to play WOW-WOTLK on my laptop without any problems, this morning I decided to start playing again and I had to download a patch but then a 'localization.xml' error popped up and I haven't been able to successfully play the game. I went on various websites to see if I could get help, including Y!A where one person was advised to use use RegCure (a supposed free register cleaner/repair) which I downloaded too and had a scan run through my laptop. Unfortunately when I was it was time to repair all the errors in my computer it asked for a credit card payment which I declined, supposedly it was a free scan and repair?
Can anyone help me out, apparently Blizzard hasn't been able to do much with this problem which other people have encountered too.
I should have asked to see the room before I agreed to book the room. The trip was a family medical emergency, last minute thing and all of the hotels were booked because of local events in town; however, the place was so filthy and in bad repair. The room service hung up the same wet dirty towels that I had used previously and the bed sheets were not changed (I placed a piece of paper inside the corner of one of the sheets - still there, along with stained sheets). Shower was filthy as well as walls, doors and trim. Hair left in sink, but of some type of cigarette in drawer (non-smoking room) from a previous customer. I asked for a refund. They said I would have to go through my credit card company (MasterCard). MasterCard says they can do nothing since I did stay there, anyway. This place should not be allowed to operate under these conditions. Contacted the Better Business Bureau, but they say that they really don't handle complaints, per se, as this one. Health Department??? Who do you suggest? It angers me that they took my money and did not provide decent service. They are nothing more than crooks!
I am a mechanic and I am thinking about starting my own repair shop. I'm tired of working for somebody else. I have good credit and some liquid capital saved. I was wondering what the cost of insurance would be for this venture. What types do I need? I know I will need it for accidents to customer's vehicles as well as some kind of liability for injury. Does anyone out there own their own shop? Anyone work in insurance? I don't want to start searching for quotes yet because I don't want to deal with the phone calls from salespeople yet.
I'm currently an RCA, even though I live in the city. I have to drive about 40 minutes to get to the post office I work at.
I went for RCA because I didn't want to wear the uniform, and liked the idea of getting the extra money for mileage/maintenance. So I bought a 2003 Prius to deliver the mail in.
It's working out pretty well...except I'm starting to get worried about the cost of repairs. Multiple people have told me that if you work several times a week, you end up spending so much on car repairs that you end up with the same amount you would have gotten for working two or three days a week.
This is my only job, so I can't really afford to buy a backup car.
I'm just now getting close to the end of my first 90 working days...but I'm still getting back from my route just in time for dispatch, especially if I work on a Monday. Part of what's slowing me down is my car--it's not converted, so I spend a lot of time getting in and out to rotate the trays of mail, I can only fit one tray up front at a time.
I know I'd have to take the city carrier exam, when they're hiring city carriers. I'm pretty sure I can get a good score, especially since I have bonus points for being ex-military.
I do *not* intend to work for the postal service as a career...I'm only doing this to pay off my credit card debt, then I'm going to go to school with the G.I. Bill. So losing my seniority (not that there's much of it) towards full time is not an issue.
Someone who's done both, preferably.....Should I get my car converted and keep being an RCA? Or should I go ahead and try to get a city carrier position?
